I practice sketching basic forms again

After months of traveling and guiding tourists, I feel the need of taking my sketchbook and pencil for practicing sketching again.

This simple sketch of cherry that I made using Faber Castell watercolour pencils is also a kind of practice that will help me getting used to drawing basic shapes. I hope that in the future, I can be more productive again in creating art illustrations based on the animal and flowers that I saw in nature.

Actually more of my recent sketches are not directly related to wildlife. Today I also draw things like lamp, power bank, the string winder of the guitar, cups and teapot.

These objects help me become getting used to drawing basic forms again, so that I can create more complex art illustration in the future. Practicing sketching enables an illustrator to use straight and curved lines in more controllable ways.

Drawing of Red Bird of Paradise

I have some sketches of Bird of Paradise that I made a few years ago. One of them is Red Bird of Paradise. I drew it using watercolour pencil on a thin A5 binder note paper. When I open this blog again, I realize that I haven't uploaded it.

The original illustration is a manual drawing. Later I created similar drawing digitally using Autodesk Sketchbook. I drew it on my cell phone screen using a stylus.

Well, I decide to upload both the manual sketch and its digital version in this post now.

The Red Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea rubra) lives in tropical rainforest of Raja Ampat especially in Waigeo, Gam, and Batanta. This bird has become an important attraction among birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.

I personally have created some digital illustrations of this beautiful bird which are now available in Redbubble as printed illustrations on mugs, t-shirts, hats, pillow sleeves and etc.
